Bridge Opening Ceremony Original Sudbrook Company Bridge - 1889 Western Maryland Railroad Bridge - 1906 Baltimore County Rehabilitated Bridge - 2006 You are cordially invited to attend the ribbon-cutting and celebration of Sudbrook Park’s Rehabilitated Bridge. Light refreshments following the ribbon-cutting Where: Sudbrook Lane & Howard Road at the bridge Please join us as we acknowledge the contributions of the many people who have worked for years to bring this project to completion and celebrate the re-opening of our one-lane bridge. Family and friends are invited to join in the festivities. (Event will be held rain or shine.) Please Note: During the event, the bridge and the Greenwood spur of the entranceway triangle will remain closed.Howard Road near the bridge also will be closed during the festivities. Anyone driving to the event should park along adjacent streets such as Cliveden Road, Howard (coming from Upland/Milford Mill Road), or Windsor (off Sudbrook Lane).
October 2005 The County expects that the bridge will be closed sometime in November or early December for the Six-M Company to begin work on rehabilitating the structure. "Bridge to be closed" signs will be posted about two weeks prior to the bridge closing. You will see orange protective fencing around our entrance way trees as part of the Tree Protection Program to preserve our landscaping. Additionally, the Greenwood Road leg of the large triangle near the bridge will be closed and used for staging materials and equipment, as will a portion of the leg of the Howard Road triangle closest to the bridge. There will be a new traffic pattern for the Howard Road triangle - each leg will be one-way in opposite directions. Appropriate signage will be installed to direct traffic. Things may be a bit chaotic for a brief time while all of us - and the large number of cut-through vehicles - adjust to the closures and the new traffic patterns. Please take your time and be courteous; there will be a lot of workers and equipment in the area. The bridge is expected to be closed for up to a year, but we are looking forward to having a lovely rehabilitated bridge and a grand celebration when the work is completed. Melanie Anson, Chair, Bridge Committee
February 2005 Baltimore County plans to re-bid our bridge rehabilitation project this Spring, around mid-May. Under this new time frame, work could begin toward the end of summer or early Fall 2005. Meanwhile, you may continue to see BGE and Verizon workers relocation power and phone lines around the bridge. We will keep you posted on developments. June 2004 There is yet another hoop to jump through: The MTA must issue a permit before BGE can relocate utility wires located above the MTA's metro line. We have been told that this permit should be Issued soon and if so, Baltimore County will advertise the bridge rehabilitation project by the end of June. We hope to be able to report a start date in our next newsletter. The plans have been approved and final for some time. Pre-rehab technical issues are resolved or underway - a gas line has been located, the water main relocation has been approved and permits applied for. BGE has begun planning for the relocation of poles and electric lines that must be moved prior to construction. The main tie-up now is legal - the county and CSX are still negotiating an agreement for performing the work. When the reach agreement on terms, the project will be advertised for bids (earliest estimate for bids: Aug/Sept.) It's generally about 2 months to construction after bids are received (meaning construction could start in November or December if all goes smoothly). |
