A scholarly work on Sudbrook's origins and the evolution of this planned suburban village designed in 1889 by Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr., America's first landscape architect. Ms. Anson's book discusses Olmsted's influence on nineteenth and early twentieth century suburban development, examines his design principles as exemplified in Sudbrook, places Sudbrook among other early Baltimore suburbs, suggests reasons for Sudbrook's successes and failures through the years, and chronicles residents' efforts to protect their community from a planned expressway and transit line.
